ELA Activities
Data Science is a part of Computer Science, and involves analyzing data (usually big data) to solve problems and develop understandings. In middle school students can use age-appropriate tools (Excel, Google Sheets) to analyze smaller data sets to gain knowledge and think critically.
Most of us don't even think about how much data we generate and consume each day. How many of you have a smart phone powered on now? That phone is sending and receiving data constantly.

In the Defining Moments unit, there are two essential understandings:
- Decisions have consequences. Some decisions have a wider scope of consequence which can lead to a chain of events that may impact others.
- The definition of defining moments can be fluid and will change depending on the context, culture, and time period.
